Jack3d and DMAA soon to be outlawed?

Jack3dJack3d from USPlabs is a pre-workout supplement that was launched in 2009 although the formula it contained at the time of launch had been used privately by its inventor and his friends since 2006. Jack3d has already been top of its class in two award categories for two consecutive years over at bodybuilding.com. That which makes Jack3d special is primarily the ingredient DMAA which is short for 1,3-dimethylamylamine, an extract from the oil of the flower Rose Geranium.

DMAA is an adrenaline-analogue substance – very similar to Ephedrine – that simply wakes up the body when taken orally or via injection. A few years back DMAA was very popular in party pills in New Zealand and Australia. Before that it was used atopically in the US as a nasal spray due to its constricting effect on the blood vessels. In conjunction with caffeine and Schizandrol A, DMAA makes your workouts really intense and focused. With the added benefit of creatine, arginine and beta-alanine, Jack3d is a recipe for success.

Unfortunately, DMAA is currently being investigated by authorities and may very soon be classified as a drug just as Ephedrine and Yohimbine were a few years back. Naturally it is not health concerns that govern the classification. It is the pharmaceutical industry and the private interests of those regulating the food and supplement industry. The history of FDA and its interaction with the pharmaceutical industry and the government is outlined in great detail in this excellent article by the lawyer Jonathan W. Emord.

As Paracelsus said: “It is the dose that differentiates a poison from a remedy”. Everything is toxic in too high a dose, even water, but that’s not what this is about. Basically, if an isolated compound works well, it is bound to be classified as a drug. That way the pharmaceutical industry kills off all competition and can start raking in the big money. Once a company has grown beyond a certain point, the most effective way to keep growing or stay on top is to push for legislation that keeps its competitors at bay. Nowhere is this more apparant than in the food, supplement and drug industry.

In Sweden the classification of DMAA as a drug is currently under way and expected to be completed sometimes this year. Once that is done, DMAA and Jack3d – in its current version – are done as workout aids. The swedish resource for Jack3d outlines this in greater detail.

Diablo 2 Power Leveling website launched

I have been in the Diablo 2 business on closed battle.net since 2001, sold millions of items and made tens of thousands of fellow gamers across the globe very happy. I got into power leveling in 2005 and it has been a niche market ever since. I have had my ups and downs through the years but I hit rock bottom in 2011 and it does not seem to improve. I response to this I started doing some research on search volumes for certain keywords, and among all those I found there was “Diablo 2 power leveling” which very well may turn out to be a good search term to place on.

Now before we get ahead of ourselves we need to get one thing straight: the D2 community is notorious for having a very non standard jargon and terminology. Instead of gold there are only items being spoken of, and instead of power leveling people talk about rushing their characters. Nevertheless, people who can confortably talk the talk can likely walk the walk – meaning they are highly unlikely to spend real money on getting the job done. People who use general online terminology such as power leveling service, on the other hand, are much more likely to suck at the game and buy their way to progress rather than play.

So, without breaking a sweat I registered the perfect domain, set it up on a hosting account, and installed wordpress. Next I filled it up with content, some of it unique and some of it simply a variation on the content of the main site to which I link. After all, I need to get people to buy from me, not just place on the keyword.

However, I am not only greedy, I am also generous and kind. I conjured up a quite helpful D2 power level guide for people that have the will to play themselves but lack direction. I am also kind enough to offer power leveling for HC Ladder which is where it is most sourly needed. I mean, instead of labouring in hell and dying with your Paladin at level 74, why not get it delivered to you alive and kicking at level 90?

So my Diablo 2 power leveling service now has a firm online presence and all that remains is to climb the ranking ladder all the way to the top – for me as well as my customers.

Displaying WordPress shortcode in widget

The other day I struggled getting a WordPress plugin “WP Customer Reviews” to display properly in a sidebar widget. You are supposed to enter a shortcode where you want the reviews displayed. Unfortunately wordpress and most of the themes that come with it do not natively support shortcode in widgets. To get this functionality you must add the following code in the theme file functions.php:

add_filter('widget_text', 'do_shortcode');

You must also make sure you enter the shortcode in the plain text / html widget. I tried it in a widget with php parsing capability and that did not work at all (for obvious reasons in hindsight).
